Headline Publishing Group has acquired the first book by sports broadcaster Clive Tyldesley.
The deal for Not for Me, Clive: Stories from the Voice of Football was struck by Headline’s consultant sports publisher Jonathan Taylor and David Luxton at David Luxton Associates.
Tyldesley was ITV’s senior football commentator for more than 20 years, leading the team at five World Cups and five European Championships. He has commentated on 22 UEFA Champions League finals and taken the microphone at 11 FA Cup finals. He has won the prestigious Royal Television Society Sports Commentator of the Year award four times.
Taylor said: “Clive has penned a truly captivating book; he writes beautifully, intelligently, thoughtfully, sensitively. This is a book about how football casts its spell on so many, and it’s also an intriguing and insightful depiction of the changing face of football and football people. It’s philosophical and wise but also deeply personal and intimate.”
Tyldesley commented: “Commentating on football is my job, writing about the game is a pleasure. This book is just football talk on a page. My hope is that every page turned will make the reader smile or think, or both. Each chapter is headed by the name of a person that has made me do both a million times—Alex Ferguson, Brian Clough, Kenny Dalglish, John Motson et al. It explores what makes each of them uniquely special and how they have influenced my own approach to football, broadcasting and life itself.”
Not for Me, Clive: Stories from the Voice of Football will be published in hardback on 13th May 2021.
